​Our Story

South African society is characterised by a dysfunctional urban environment with inefficient costly and distorted settlement patterns and a considerable housing backlog.  A majority of urban dwellers are challenged to find affordable housing within reasonable distances to their places of work. Sikelela.Africa is a cooperative formed to address the national housing requirement for SANDF members, SANDF veterans, public servants, and other citizens of the country. Our objective is to fulfill the South African constitutional rights of access to adequate housing and to deliver integrated and sustainable settlements that provide convenient access to amenities including places of employment.

Our strategy is based on the following principles:

• Collaboration with public and private sector landowners.

• Collaboration with SANDF and public sector employers.

• Collaboration with development partners and contracted building specialists.

• Gearing private and public sector capital to ensure low-risk projects.

• Creating sustainable ecosystems and communities across income groups.

• Developing partnerships with local and international bodies with shared principles to accelerate delivery.
